Dealing with cultural differences.

In recent years, more and more China students have gone abroad to study all over the world. Due to the differences in cultural concepts, students sometimes inevitably encounter cultural conflicts. It is undoubtedly a compulsory course for students to enhance mutual understanding and resolve conflicts caused by cultural conflicts.

  Dialectical view of differences

Wang Meng is really a junior and is currently studying in the University of Southern Denmark. Her life in the local area is smooth and she gets along well with the local people, but she still feels the cultural differences.

This semester, Wang Mengzhen exchanged studies in Denmark, with few students from China around, so she often went out for dinner with foreign friends and got to know the local society more quickly. She told the author that in the process of communicating with foreign friends, some of their views were not very agreeable to her, and she would affirm the good views and have reservations about those that she did not agree with. "But I will listen to their logic completely." Wang Mengzhen said.

Cai Yu, an exchange student at Barnard College of Columbia University, also shared her experiences. "We often regard modesty as a virtue." Cai Yu said, "But Barnard’s class made me realize that being too modest will make me miss many opportunities."

Cai Yu told the author that studying abroad is very hard, there are a lot of materials to read and papers to write, and the pace of class is very fast. By feeling the atmosphere in the classroom and colliding with the views of local students, Cai Yu learned more about the local culture.

"Academic seminars are dominated by students, and everyone is never humble. If you have opinions, you can say that the speech speed is very fast." Cai Yu began to slowly adjust her state, speak boldly and keep up with the rhythm of her classmates. I have also gained more opportunities for communication.

  Accommodate different cultures

How to deal with cultural differences? Overseas students summed up their own methods.

Wang Mengzhen believes that cultural differences are inevitable. "I didn’t conflict with the locals because of differences in ideas. When I have different understandings, I actively communicate with them, let them understand the cultural factors behind my point of view and strive for their understanding. "

Cai Yu believes that everyone should be respected. "I respect your right to speak, but I can disagree with you."

Wang Mengzhen said that people who understand different views make themselves more tolerant and calm. "I have met all kinds of people and often reflected on myself. I have a better understanding of what kind of person I am and what kind of life I am most suitable for."

When sharing her experience with American roommates, Cai Yu said: "Everyone is different, but we should respect this difference and seek common ground while reserving differences. For example, my roommate and I are both studying literature, and we also have common topics. We all like music very much, and we will care about each other and think of each other everywhere. When there are differences of opinion, we will stand in the cultural perspective of the other party and understand tolerance as much as possible. "
