Yang Dong, who lives in Gaodong Village, Baiping Township, Wusheng County, Guang ‘an City, Sichuan Province, used to work in Shenzhen with his wife. In 2014, they returned to their hometown to start a farmhouse. Now, the number of tourists in the village is increasing year by year, and the farmhouse business is getting better and better, which is much higher than the income from working.
There are more than 500 villagers like Yang Dong and his wife who have returned to their hometowns to start businesses. Apart from setting up farmhouses and inns, they also develop leisure and sightseeing agriculture and fruit picking bases, which not only ensure their income, but also accompany their children and take care of their parents.
The change of these villagers’ life stems from the development idea of combining local agriculture with tourism. Vu Thang is a traditional agricultural county, with the good name of fertile land and land of plenty of rice, and rich resources of agricultural special products. However, before 2010, the tourism industry in this county was almost zero, and there was no mature scenic spot within its jurisdiction.
Since 2011, Vu Thang has taken advantage of its developed transportation network and its proximity to Chongqing to vigorously develop rural tourism and build "Baiping — Feilong Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park ". The demonstration area adheres to the development concept of "integration of production and village, combination of agriculture and tourism", vigorously develops leisure agriculture and rural tourism, and strives to build an urban-rural integrated demonstration area, an industrial integration development area, an ecologically livable model area and a farming culture inheritance area. Some former "abandoned land" has become an industrial park.
On May 16th, the reporter came to Baiping — Feilong Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, where not only the scenery is beautiful, but also the vast fields are full of characteristic fruits, and the modern agricultural park is full of cultural charm. More than 20 special scenic spots, such as In the Mood for Love, Orange Sea Sunshine, Silk Painting, Xiaba Farming Memory, Grain Courtyard, Chaomen Courtyard, etc., have been carefully created in the local area, and the intangible cultural heritage such as paper-cutting art and bamboo curtain painting and the wedding folk custom in eastern Sichuan have been presented to tourists. By recreating the original appearance of the houses in East Sichuan in different years of the last century, visitors can experience the ancient oil extraction, wine making and grinding bean curd traditional crafts, enjoy the scenery, see the history and remember the homesickness.
Farmhouses and farmland have become scenic spots, and the functions of scenic spots have been continuously improved, and Baiping — The popularity of Feilong Rural Revitalization Demonstration Zone is growing. Every holiday, whether it’s Zhangjia Courtyard, which is rich in bamboo silk curtains, Chaomen Courtyard, which is full of the customs of the Republic of China, and Gaojia Courtyard, which shows rural folk culture, there are tourists from all directions everywhere.
The person in charge of the demonstration area introduced that at present, Baiping — The Feilong Rural Revitalization Demonstration Zone has built nearly 60,000 mu of industrial bases for sweet oranges, vegetables, grain and oil, and two supporting primary processing centers for agricultural products. It has built 6 theme scenic spots and more than 20 scenic spots, receiving more than 1 million tourists annually.
