At present, Guangzhou is promoting COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 3-11 according to the unified national deployment. On November 3, the reporter learned that as of 24: 00 on November 2, the population of children aged 3-11 in Guangzhou had been vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine for more than 300,000 times.

Why is the vaccination dose of children aged 3-11 the same as that of adults? Why is there only "two-needle" inactivated vaccine in this population at present? On November 3rd, Zhang Chunhuan, Vice Minister of Immunization Planning Department of Guangzhou CDC, was interviewed by a reporter and responded to hot issues.

Four reasons why "Little Douding" should be inoculated.

"It is very necessary for children aged 3-11 to be vaccinated with Covid-19 vaccine." Zhang Chunhuan told reporters that there are four main reasons:

First of all, in terms of prevention, although previous data showed that the prevalence rate of COVID-19 in children was low, with the current global epidemic progress, the number of cases of children infected in some countries has an upward trend, even approaching the level of adult cases last year.

Secondly, in terms of protection against severe illness and death, although in the previous data, the severe illness rate and death rate of children infected with Covid-19 were lower than that of adults, serious illness and death cases of children have occurred in some countries with severe epidemics, and in some countries, the reported data even exceeded the data at the time of influenza epidemic.

Thirdly, as for the management of epidemic prevention and control, if children are infected with Covid-19, they should be quarantined just like adults, which will have an impact on the whole family.

Finally, from the perspective of establishing an immune barrier, the population aged 3-11 is also a part of our population. We should try our best to improve the immune level of the population. At this time, it is very necessary to vaccinate people with immune gaps to fill the shortcomings of the immune barrier.

At present, the relevant vaccination work in Guangzhou is progressing well. Zhang Chunhuan revealed that according to the data of the seventh national census, there are currently more than 1.6 million children aged 3 -11 in Guangzhou. As of 24: 00 on November 2nd, the population of children aged 3-11 in Guangzhou had been vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine for more than 300,000 times.

"Related vaccine manufacturers and relevant state departments have conducted clinical trials. From the previous data, there is no significant difference in adverse reactions between people aged 3-11 and adults. Judging from the current vaccination situation in Guangzhou, no serious adverse reactions have been reported. A small number of children may have some symptoms such as redness and induration at the inoculation site, and a very small number of children have systemic reactions, mainly fever, headache and fatigue, but the symptoms are mild and will relieve themselves. " Zhang Chunhuan reminded, "If you find that the symptoms are serious or there is a trend of continuous aggravation, please see a doctor in time and report to the vaccination unit."

Inoculation dose is scientifically supported by experimental data

Many parents are concerned about why children aged 3-11 receive the same dose of COVID-19 vaccine as adults. Zhang Chunhuan told the Yangcheng Evening News reporter: "The dose of vaccination is scientifically supported by experimental data. In fact, at present, many vaccines, such as influenza vaccine, have the same dose for people over 3 years old as adults. Therefore, this is different from the general concept of drug dosage, and parents don’t have to worry too much. "

Why is recombination vaccines, commonly known as "Three Needles", not included in the vaccination program for this population at present? Zhang Chunhuan responded: At present, the vaccine approved for use by people aged 3-11 years old is Covid-19 inactivated vaccine (Vero cells) produced or commissioned by Beijing Biology Institute, Kexing Zhongwei Institute and Wuhan Biology Institute. The "three-needle" vaccine commonly known by the public is a recombinant Covid-19 vaccine (CHO cells), which is different from the inactivated vaccine. How to use each vaccine in different populations requires strict clinical trials, sufficient data collection, analysis and demonstration, and finally approval. "At present, three kinds of inactivated vaccines have been approved, but the related vaccine research and development process is still stepping up, and more and more vaccines will definitely be available in the future." Zhang Chunhuan said.
